Celebrating the visionary leaders, spiritual giants, and courageous elders whose lives continue to inspire the Twic East community across generations.
Dr John Garang de Mabior
Founder and leader of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A) from 1983 until his passing in 2005. He led the struggle against marginalisation, the imposition of Sharia Law, and Islamism, dedicating his life to the vision of a New Sudan. In 2005, he signed the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), which opened the path to South Sudan's independence. Tragically, he died in a helicopter crash on 30 July 2005 — just 21 days after the peace agreement. He never drew a salary as First Vice President of Sudan.
Permena Bul Koch
A fearless chief who chose to perish in flames rather than surrender Twic East land to Arab colonial forces. He stood unwavering in blazing fire for the sake of his people and their homeland.
Ajang Duot Bior
Former Paramount Chief of Greater Bor, a respected elder who guided the community through times of change with wisdom and steady leadership.

Rebecca Adit (Kuarguk) Adoor
A great messenger of God, renowned for the power of her prayers. In 1998, she is remembered for defeating the enemy through rain, establishing the Tamarind Tree of Peace in Twic East. She cleared and burned traditional altars of idols and shrines across the county, laying the foundation for Twic East as a Christian stronghold. She was also blessed with the gift of foresight, able to predict future events.
Dr Daniel Deng Bul Yak
Former Primate and Archbishop of the Episcopal Church of Sudan and South Sudan. A spiritual father to millions and a steadfast voice for peace and reconciliation.
Late Rev Stephen Dit Makok
A great gospel teacher, hymn composer, and artist. He pioneered the singing styles, dancing traditions, and drum rhythms that continue to shape worship in Dinka congregations of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan today.
